Trainee Accountant - Belfast

MCS Group is delighted to be partnering with a well established small/mid-tier Accountancy Practice based in Belfast , looking to recruit for a Trainee Accountant on a full time, permanent basis.

The Company:

A growing Belfast-based Practice is seeking a Trainee Accountant to support continued expansion. The role involves working with a portfolio of clients processing VAT returns, Bank reconciliations and small Accounts Preparation as you progress. The team values development, a strong work/life balance, and operates a no-overtime culture with offices closing at 1pm every Friday.

Job Duties of the Trainee Accountant Include:

• Regularly communicate with clients by phone, email and in person.
• Prepare accounts for smaller clients and support the completion of corporation and personal tax returns.
• Handle bookkeeping tasks and draft VAT returns.
• Opportunity to assist with transactional work, including M&A and complex tax matters.
• Provide ad hoc project support across wider business areas.

What You Need to be the Successful Trainee Accountant?

• GCSE/A-level/Degree (preferably in a numerate or analytical discipline).
• Strong numerical capability with sound analytical and critical-thinking skills.
• Good IT proficiency, particularly in MS Office and Excel.
• Confident communicator with the ability to engage clearly with clients and colleagues.
• Prior experience in an accountancy practice is highly desirable.
• Previous experience doing VAT / bookkeeping (practice or industry) is desirable.
